Assessing Musical Intelligence

Musical skill is often inferred from musical qualifications or years of musical training. This approach has its merits, but it fails to identify musically untrained individuals with dormant musical skills — a group of great interest to researchers and practitioners alike.
To counteract this limitation we developed the Profile of Music Perception Skills (PROMS) - a test capable of assessing skills across a broad range of musical domains as depicted in the Figure below (for details, see Law & Zentner, 2012 or click here).
